Bread and Butter Basics of Coughs Using Homeopathy

Allow me to postulate that health is not random. As a homeopathic consultant for over 13 years, I have seen health and the lack of it. I believe that the principles and laws of health are available to anyone interested in observing and then emulating them. There are explicit strategies, thoughts and actions that must be in place in order to achieve anything we do in life. In attaining health, it would be wise to follow the traditions of true healing. Homeopathy offers this.

Homeopathic remedies are prepared from substances that are greatly diluted so that they are made as “nano- pharmacology”. These minute doses elicit a response that will bring a completion of the illness.

These ideas are not new. Paracelsus wrote about them when he was chronicling medical history. He discussed the principles of using a substance that has the capacity to cause very similar symptoms to what the person is experiencing.

Homeopathy was popular in the U.S. and Europe at the turn of the last century because of its impressive results with serious infectious diseases. These were epidemic diseases such as cholera, yellow fever, scarlet fever, typhoid or malaria and often presented with coughs. The death rates from these diseases when treated homeopathically were commonly one half or even as low as one-eighth of those that were treated in conventional medical hospitals. At the turn of the century, there were 100 homeopathic hospitals in the United States and 22 homeopathic medical schools.

Homeopathy had an illustrious history of cure and although it is no longer a part of the American medical scene, it has made a resurgence among those who are interested in a medicine that isn’t dangerous. Coughs aren’t the only maladies it’s capable of addressing.

Homeopathy is unique because it doesn’t treat the illness; it treats the person. This means that 5 people with a cough will receive 5 different remedies, based on the symptoms, or how their illness presents.

For example, a cough that is loud, noisy and is hard like a barky croup cough, has been shown to be a call for the remedy Kali mur 6x. There is a thick whitish mucus accompanying the cough that helps distinguish it from other coughs and hence, other remedy choices.

Kali sulph 6x is a remedy for when there is a good deal of mucus that is rattling in the chest. Often, the cough is made worse from being in a warm, stuffy room and conversely, is made more comfortable in cool open air.

Mag phos 6x is the premiere remedy for the cough that is spasmodic and is often worse at night. This has been shown to be of particular value in whooping cough as it is characterized by spasms.

Calc phos 6x is the choice when the cough feels suffocative. The sufferer is comforted by lying down and the mucous is stringy and tough.

Nat sulph 6x is the remedy for those whose chest is sore from the coughing. The mucous is thick and yellow and there is a sensation of weakness or loss in the chest.

What ever the presentation, whatever kind of cough, homeopathy has just the right remedy to address it. Not a discount, polyester, one size fits all, but, tailor made, cough specific, person specific. Now that’s what I call real medicine.

Homeopathy

The word homeopathy comes from the Greek words for “suffering” and “similar.” Homeopathy is the practice of treating diseases and conditions with the substance or circumstance that caused them. The best example of the basic concept of homeopathy in regular use is allergy injections which use small amounts of the allergen to immunize the patient against later exposure to the allergen.

A homeopathic remedy is created by mixing minute amounts of substances with insoluble substances like oyster shell or quartz. The theory is that the medicine created by this process will trigger the body’s natural immune system to fight the condition being treated. Scientists note that the amounts are often so minute that the statistical likelihood of the compound containing any of the original substance is minute.

Homeopathy was one of the earliest techniques of modern medicine. Homeopathic remedies have been used to treat such diseases as cholera, smallpox, scarlet fever and syphilis. Early physicians, for example, noticed the similarity of the symptoms of mercury poisoning to those of syphilis and treated patients with tiny doses of mercury. Doctors in the early 1800s used a homeopathic remedy including tiny amounts of the plant sarracenia to successfully treat smallpox. Homeopathy reached its peak in the United States in the mid-1800s but fell out of favor due to advances in modern medicine.

Many people have the misconception that homeopathic remedies are only comprised of plant ingredients. However, homeopathic medicines can use many different types of ingredients including salts, animal products and substances of human origin like scrapings from skin or hair clippings.

In the United States, homeopathic remedies are regulated by the Food and Drug Administration. Companies producing homeopathic remedies are not required to provide proof that they work, nor do they have to provide information on their active ingredients since they are made up almost entirely out of inactive ingredients. Remedies for ordinary complaints such as headache, stomach problems or colds are sold over the counter, However, homeopathic remedies for serious diseases are sold only by prescription.

Homeopathy is more widely practiced than other forms of alternative medicine, but it is still controversial. Scientists say there is no scientific basis for the efficacy of homeopathic remedies. They ascribe any benefit received from homeopathy to the placebo effect. The main concern among scientists and doctors is that patients with serious conditions will rely on homeopathy instead of seeking more traditional treatments.
