  • Is Homeopathy Effective?
You may have heard of "homeopathy" but you're not sure what it is. Simply put, "homeopathy" is a system of medicine that treats a condition with highly diluted natural substances that mimic the symptoms of the condition being treated. This concept seems paradoxical to most. Homeopathy is a difficult concept to grasp. How do you cure someone of an illness by giving them an infinitesimally small concentration of something that can cause the illness? One would think that by giving someone who is sick something that causes what they're already suffering from would only make the person sicker. But, according to proponents of the science, homeopathy not only works, but is better than conventional medicine, espousing their belief that homeopathy is the way medicine should be, but somewhere along the line the pharmaceutical industry got involved, and natural medicine was abruptly dismissed in favor of chemical laden formulations.
There are actually quite a few homeopathic medicines in your neighborhood pharmacy and health food store. You may not be aware that they're there, but they are. The FDA requires that homeopathic products put the word "homeopathic" somewhere on the packaging, though sometimes the word can be difficult to find. The easiest way to ascertain whether the product you're looking at is homeopathic is to read the label on the back and take a look at the ingredients. In homeopathy, all of the ingredients are diluted, so each ingredient in a homeopathic product has the letter "X" after it. So, if one of the ingredients is "Zinc 20X", that means the product contains Zinc that has been diluted 20 times. One of the most popular cold medicines on the market, "Zicam," is actually a homeopathic remedy that consists of homeopathic zinc in the form of a nasal gel. Most people that use Zicam don't even realize that it's homeopathic.
There are homeopathic remedies available for almost any condition you can think of. Cold, flu, allergy, even bedwetting; there is a homeopathic remedy available for almost every condition (yes, there really is a homeopathic medicine to treat bedwetting, made by Liddell Laboratories in Moraga, CA). Homeopathy is universally recognized as being safe, as the ingredients used are natural substances diluted so many times that there's almost nothing in the product. Because there is such a small concentration of the ingredients in a homeopathic remedy, many cynics, including the drug companies that make conventional medicine and are afraid of the growing popularity of homeopathy, claim that any improvement in an ill person's condition experienced after using a homeopathic medicine is purely the result of the placebo effect. Since the FDA does not require that homeopathic products undergo clinical testing before being sold to the public, the detractors feel that homeopathy is a bunch of bologna and that it doesn't really work. So, who's telling the truth? Does homeopathy work or not? In my opinion, the answer is a resounding yes. There have been several clinical trials done over the years to test the efficacy of homeopathic products. Liddell Laboratories makes a product called "Vital HGH" which contains homeopathic HGH. Vital HGH is designed to treat the symptoms of aging and/or a rundown condition. In a small clinical trial performed years ago, a group of test subjects who were deficient in human growth hormone, ranging in age from 45 years and up, were given the Vital HGH formulation. The results speak for themselves. During the five month clinical trial, the levels of HGH in the blood increased in every test subject, and more than doubled the average level of HGH. Homeopathy does work.
I speak from personal experience. I used Liddell's homeopathic remedy to deal with the allergy attacks I was having, and the medicine not only stopped the attacks faster than the Claritin I had been taking, but I began using the Liddell allergy product once a day as a means for preventing the allergies from recurring, and I haven't had another attack since. So, why is there a controversy? Well, there's a public perception that homeopathy is the same thing as holistic healing, where a weird looking guy puts a triangle around your head and tells you to drink mashed tree bark, like George did on Seinfeld to treat his tonsillitis before he turned purple. This is not homeopathy. Homeopathic medicines are carefully formulated and contain tiny amounts of specific natural substances designed to provoke a response in your body that helps your body to fight the condition that the medicine is designed to treat. So, a homeopathic cold medicine would perhaps contain something that stimulates your immune system to more effectively fight a cold virus. It's a really a very simple concept. Another reason why homeopathy is taken for granted is because it makes big drug manufacturers nervous that such products might be more effective for treating common illnesses as opposed to the more expensive prescription versions that make the pharmaceutical companies rich. Most homeopathic products are incredibly cheap.
A prescribed conventional medicine costs a lot more. If the public began demanding natural, homeopathic remedies for their ailments, drug companies would have to make these kinds of products to stay in business, and then they're revenues and profits would shrink. Imagine if Pfizer had to stop manufacturing Viagra, which they sell at $20-$30 per pill, and instead make a homeopathic product that would retail for only $20 for a one month supply. This is the pharmaceutical industry's worst nightmare, and this is why drug companies often spend significant money to debunk claims that homeopathy works, using a wide variety of misinformation tactics to instill a belief in the public that homeopathy is hocus pocus. This simply isn't true. Homeopathy works, and at a cost that people can afford. You should continue to use the conventional medicines. They are needed and necessary and sometimes homeopathy doesn't work for each and every individual. But, next time you go to the pharmacy, take a look at some of the homeopathic brands on the shelf and give them a try. For common ailments that aren't life threatening, homeopathy is probably a cheaper and effective alternative.

  • Child Allegic Asthma and Homeopathy Treatment
Remove allegy and being normal child with out steroid medicine and injectable medicine. When a person has an asthma attack, the inflammation in the respiratory system makes breathing difficult. Homeopathic treatments usually involve giving the body a miniscule amount of the substance causing the reaction to help the body learn how to cope. Once a homeopath finds the right treatment, patients can find relief. Because treatments are extremely individualized, clinical research in homeopathy is difficult; the same remedy is not the correct remedy for every case of a disease. Homeopathic treatment, however, can be taken in conjunction with prescribed drugs, providing a safe, alternative method for people to cope with asthma.
The goal of homeopathic treatment for asthma is to identify the root cause for the attacks, and then to use the bodies own healing processes to transform the triggers into remedies. Asthma is viewed differently in each person, because each person is afflicted in a different way. Factors considered by the homeopath include frequency of attacks, possible allergens and other symptoms. The health of the whole body, not just the respiratory system, is addressed. Ultimately, homeopathy might create a cure for the asthma by strengthening and balancing the immune system. Asthma Homeopathy treatment When treating an asthmatic patient with homeopathic remedies, great care must be taken to record the exact symptoms experienced during an attack to properly identify the correct remedy.
Popular homeopathic remedies for asthma include: · Pulsetila works well if symptoms are spasmodic; the patient feels a lot of weight and anxiety about the chest; there is sudden wheezing, difficulty breathing, and a feeling of suffocation, which is made worse if the patient moves or is warmed; and the cough creates retching and vomiting. Ipecac might be called for when the cough is continuous and the chest seems full of phlegm, yet nothing is coughed up. The extremities are covered with cold sweat. · ipecanum is similar to Arsenic alb., and is especially useful if the disease is chronic, the patient is older and the labored breathing is habitual and dry. It is used when the attacks occur between midnight and 2 a.m. The patient's dry wheezing may progress to a cough that brings up frothy, whitish fluid. He or she feels exhausted yet experiences a lot of anguish and restlessness, fearing suffocation if he or she lies down.
There is a general sweat, and the person can be thirsty, taking frequent, tiny sips. If the patient falls asleep again, he or she is awakened with soreness and burning pain in the chest and heat in the head. Warmth often brings improvement. Arsenicum follows Ipecac well, and is especially useful in those who are anemic. · Carbo vegitable is helpful when symptoms include a tense, constricted feeling in the lower part of the chest, with pressure in the stomach. The patient finds some relief by belching, and the patient must loosen his or her clothing. Problems are often worse in the morning. It might be useful when gastric disturbances bring on the asthmatic attacks, and during simple spasmodic asthmas. Both mental exertion and physical effort can make symptoms worse, while warmth and sleep often bring relief. Overindulgence in sweets, spicy food, stimulants and alcohol are common. If there is a lot of abdominal irritation and much flatulence, Nux vomica might be combined with Lycopodium and Carbo vegetabilis. · Kali bic might help patients who experience attacks at about 3 or 4 a.m., with a feeling as if there were no air in the chest. The patient feels compelled to sit up to breathe, and bending forward while sitting brings some relief. The patient coughs up stringy yellow mucus. ·
Natrum mur treats general symptoms including a worsening of asthma when exposed to mold and dampness; attacks occur at about 4 to 5 a.m.; and the patient sits up and holds the chest with the hands while coughing. Wheezing and breathing difficulties are aggravated by exertion. The patient usually also has loose bowels after each attack. · Antimonium tartaricum (Ant.t), a remedy used by conventional medicine for asthma, can also be used as a homoeopathic treatment for certain symptoms. The keynote for using this option is the presence of fine rattling or crackling sounds in the chest. The chest also seems full of phlegm that the patient cannot cough up. The patient must sit up at about 3 a.m., has great difficulty breathing, and feels suffocated. Antimonium tartaricum is especially suited to young children and the elderly. · Spongia tosta is strongly indicated by a barking cough during an asthma attack. Labored breathing has a sawing sound and little mucus is produced. The person may feel best when leaning forward or when sitting up and tilting the head back. Warm drinks may be helpful. The problems usually begin before midnight while the person is asleep.

  • Homeopathy At The Forefront
Have you ever heard of homeopathy? You probably have, but have no idea what it really is. Homeopathy is a system of medicine that treats an illness or condition with highly diluted concentrations of natural ingredients that mimic the symptoms of the condition being treated. It seems like an odd premise, but in spite of the unusual mechanism behind it, it is a very effective method for treating disease. How do you cure someone of an illness by giving that person a tiny concentration of something that actually causes the illness? According to proponents of the science, homeopathy not only works, but works better than conventional medicine.
They say that somewhere along the line the pharmaceutical industry got involved in medicine, at which point natural remedies were abandoned in favor of chemical formulations. If you browse through your local pharmacy, you will notice that there are actually quite a few products in the Cold & Flu aisle that are homeopathic. The easiest way to to find out if a product you are interested in is homeopathic is to read the label on the back and take a look at the ingredients. In homeopathy, all of the ingredients are diluted, so each ingredient in a homeopathic product has the letter X or C after it. So, if one of the ingredients is Zinc 20X, that means the product contains Zinc that has been diluted 20 times. Homeopathy is universally recognized as being safe because the ingredients are always natural substances diluted many times over. The big drug companies claim that any relief felt from the application of a homeopathic medicine can be attributed to the placebo effect. And, because the FDA does not require homeopathic products to undergo a clinical trial before being sold to the public, the detractors feel that homeopathy is junk science. I personally have used homeopathic remedies to treat my allergies, and not only do they work, but they seem to prevent the symptoms from returning for an extended period of time. The main reason why big drug manufacturers try to downplay the effectiveness of homeopathic medicines is so they will not have to make them. Most homeopathic products are incredibly cheap to manufacture and the profit margins are extremely small. A prescribed conventional medicine costs a lot more. If the public began demanding natural, homeopathic remedies for their ailments, drug companies would have to make these kinds of products to stay in business, and then their revenues would tumble and their profits would shrink. • Your Guide to Understanding Homeopathy – the Homeopathic Revolution: Why Famous People & Cultural Heroes Choose Homeopathy
Inspired by Coretta Scott-King, who chose to be treated with homeopathic medicine before her death, Dana Ullman, MPH was driven to research how many famous people and notable figures have pursued homeopathy as an alternative to conventional medicine. As the practical "gateway" to understanding the phenomenal history and influences of present day homeopathy, Ullman's The Homeopathic Revolution:
Why Famous People & Cultural Heroes Choose Homeopathy reveals the many aspects surrounding the origin and impact this wisdom medicine has made on an international level. On reviewing Ullman's book, one can clearly see the passion and knowledge driving America's leading advocate for homeopathic medicine.
For the open-minded and skeptics alike; the book invites all walks of life to discover the hidden secrets of homeopathy. For example, did you know that England's Royal Family subscribes to homeopathic treatment? "Much like the tradition as the passing of the crown, they have been under homeopathic care since the 1830s," says Ullman. While it's evident that homeopathy is widely accepted in Europe, there has been resistance to the field among the medical community in the United States. "There are several reasons for this. First, there is a 'this for that' medical thinking, where there is an assumption that there is ONE medicine or herb for everyone with the same disease. Homeopaths are too scientifically-minded to make this simplistic assumption.
We believe that one person's migraine is different from another's. Further, we do not believe that any disease is local to one part of the body. Arthritis is not in the joints, heart disease is not limited to the heart, etc.," he says. "This is not the way nature works. We treat syndromes, the complex of symptoms in which the disease is just a part and not disease. Also, we live in America where there's a medical machismo, where increasingly stronger and more powerful drugs are used but they also have more side effects – and short-term benefits. There's a good reason why conventional medicine changes decade to decade — it seems to provide a therapeutic effect that is more seductive (and short-term) than really curative, with some obvious exceptions." In his book, Ullman discusses famous celebrities and influential leaders, past and present, who have utilized homeopathic medicine, including Tina Turner, Catherine Zeta-Jones, Cher, Emily Dickinson, Pamela Anderson, several American presidents, Mother Teresa, a number of Popes, and countless others. "We have much of what we know from people like Tina Turner," says Ullman, who credits homeopathy with curing her tuberculosis.
"The reason homeopathy became popular in Europe and America is the spectacular results for treating cholera, typhoid, pneumonia, infectious diseases – our results are stellar," he says. "Our methods are smarter and more effective at strengthening the immune system, and preventing infections, therein." During the early 1900s, several major corporations like General Motors (GM), General Electric (GE) and Montgomery Ward actually provided onsite homeopathic clinics for employees. "These were not just some new age people — they were very practically-minded corporate leaders," says Ullman. While principles of homeopathy have been around for hundreds of years, Ullman explains that the system of homeopathy wasn't developed until Samuel Hahnemann, MD came into the picture during the early 1800s. Within the pages of Ullman's book, one will discover that the only physician to have a monument dedicated to him in the Nation's Capitol, (Washington, D.C.) is none other than Hahnemann. For prospective students interested in pursuing a homeopathic career, this should be the first book interested individuals should study. With a forward written by Dr. Peter Fisher, physician to Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, The Homeopathic Revolution: Why Famous People & Cultural Heroes Choose Homeopathy will certainly prove to be required reading for any intellectual literary and homeopathic medicine collection.

  • The Use of Homeopathy in Pediatric Medicine
Homeopathy and pediatrics is a combination that many are not accustomed to thinking about explicitly. In fact, homeopathy is regularly used to treat children throughout many parts of the developed world. Although most know very little about homeopathic medicine, following Chinese medicine, homeopathy is the second most prevalent branch of medicine on the planet. Homeopathy is used to treat diseases in children ranging from semi-serious illnesses to the common cold.
Although homeopathy works in a number of ways, its most basic function is to help strengthen and focus a child's immune system when they are sick based on the symptoms and root cause of the ailment. Once their own immune systems become stronger, they are able to fight off diseases more effectively. What makes homeopathy particularly suited to pediatrics is that the medicine is often sweet and appealing, and has little to no side effects. The pleasant taste combined with the low incidence of side effects such as nausea or drowsiness, ensures that the child will be more likely to take the medication on a regular basis.
Typical Applications of Homeopathy in Pediatrics Homeopathic treatment usually falls into two categories; either acute or chronic conditions. Acute conditions refer to a sick child that is suffering from such illnesses as colds, sore throats, or the stomach flu. Chronic conditions refer to ailments such as allergies, asthma or any number of skin diseases. Whether dealing with acute or chronic conditions in children, homeopathy has proven to be quite effective. In the case of acute conditions, parents often can treat the child at home with homeopathy. However, in the case of chronic conditions, meeting with a well-trained homeopathic professional may be necessary to treat the child. Over the Counter Products Parents who choose to treat children with an acute condition at home may consider a home prescription kit with homeopathic remedies in 12c or 30c concentrations. Home prescription kits containing homeopathic remedies can be brought online or at stores and range from $60 to $100 dollars. Many homeopathic products are available as over the counter medicines. Parents can also purchase manuals and books on homeopathy for under $30. Homeopathic medicines are free of artificial colors and chemicals and are usually considered safe for infants and children.
Homeopathic medicines come in pills and liquid form. The medicine that is prescribed depends on three things: the type of medicine that is being given, its strength, and the condition of the patient. Some Other Interesting Facts about Homeopathy ·Homeopathy is based on clinical and experimental data. ·The founding father of homeopathy was Samuel Hahnemann (1755-1843), a German physician, who developed the basic principles of homeopathy in the late 1700s. ·Homeopathy is recognized by medical professionals and government agencies including the U.S. Food and Drug Association (FDA), and is regulated as medicine. ·Sugar pills are commonly used as a binding agent in homeopathic medicine and as carriers for the medicine. ·Homeopathy uses the principles of dilutions to achieve extremely low concentrations of high potency herbal and other remedies. ·Homeopathic medicine can work fairly fast in acute cases. In chronic cases, the medication works at a slower pace.
When a person is uses homeopathic treatments they should abstain from certain foods like tea, coffee and alcohol. ·Homeopathic medicines are based on naturally occurring remedies, are usually not patented and are therefore cheaper then other types of conventional medicines. ·Homeopathic medicines usually do not have any side effects.

  • Natural Medicine – Discussing Acupuncture

There is a lot of misunderstanding about exactly what natural medicine is. Is acupuncture effective? Is it a con? What does it actually treat? In this article I'd like to describe the concepts of natural medicine, and maybe clear up many of the confusion surrounding it.

Natural medicine is simply the use of traditional practices, natural methods, and herbal medicines, to treat illness. Most societies in the world have a deep history of natural medicine. Many types of healing treatments, such as alternative therapy, fall under the term natural medicine.

A number of herbal medicines have been present for thousands of years in Chinese and Indian culture. Natural medicines tend to be inexpensive and risk free, in stark contrast to many modern manufactured drugs, and have few if any side effects.

Since the creation of the popular penicillin, traditional natural medicine therapies have fallen out of favour or been forgotten. However, alternative treatments like homeopathy are making a comback. More and more doctors are starting to recognise their benefits, and many scientific studies are being carried out to measure their effectiveness against modern medicine.

With more people becoming aware of the vast number of chemicals we absorb into our bodies – either from treatments or clothing – natural therapy is surely becoming a more useful treatment in our modern culture.
